     Durango, Colorado is a vibrant mountain town nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Established in 1881 by the miners and railroaders of the 19th century "old west," Durango maintains much of the antique charm of its past. But this gem of the rockies hasn't faded into a ghost town. Its diverse atmosphere bridges the gap between a quaint mountain town and a bustling hub of commerce, art, and eclectic lifestyles from all over the world. Whether you're looking for retirement, a vacation home, or relocation, Durango is THE place to be. 

     Unlike the more urban environments of Colorado locales like Denver, Boulder, or Colorado Springs, Durango remains unspoiled by big city life. Durango sits right at the doorstep of the expansive mountain ranges of Southwest Colorado. When you live in Durango, there's no need to travel to nature, because it's right out of your back door. Just 15 miles northeast of Durango lies the exquisite Weminuche Wilderness. The excitement all comes to a head with Durango's annualAnimas River Days in June, when Durangoans gather to celebrate and enjoy the river. 

     25 miles north of downtown Durango, you will find Durango Mountain Resort (still affectionately referred to as "Purgatory" or "Purg" by the locals). With 11 lifts and a summit elevation of 10,822 feet, a day at Purgatory is unlike any other skiing or snowboarding experience. The slopes feature a priceless view of the Needles Mountain Range (seen above), and many amenities for all levels and ages. Fine dining, shopping, and lodging are all available in the Durango Mountain Village. 
     Additionally, for those who fall prey to the enchanting beauty of Purgatory, you can ski in and out of a brand new townhome, complete with top-of-the-line architecture and interior finishes, now at bargain prices! 

     Even if you'd take a weekend at the spa over a weekend in the woods, Durango has a special place for you. Downtown Durango features more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. You can take a stroll down Main Street and visit the many shops, coffee houses, restaurants, art galleries, theatres, etc. that Durango has to offer.
